When "ex" Party Girl & Hospitality Collide

When "ex" Party Girl & Hospitality Collide

A year ago I had a vision during a medicine journey (more on that in the video). A gorgeous, almost fairy tale dinner series in my house. World class hospitality, people from my world who I introduce to each other, and local artists and musicians woven into the night.

I've spent the last year making the connections, building the speakeasy, and now, speaking it into existence.

Every dinner becomes a chapter in a coffee table book. A copy of the menu, signed by the chef. Photos of the food, the people, the room. A guest book where everyone leaves one word about how the night felt.

I go deeper on the vision, the design process and the brand partnership angle in the full video.

Austin Is Becoming A Membership Town

Will these memberships survive? Do we really want them?

Maybe I have commitment issues, but can't we just pay a day pass or an entry fee instead of committing to whole membership? The memberships will constantly have to be programming to keep the value of the membership and even then I don't think it's sustainable. I don't think Austin's population is big enough nor the demand high enough for all the membership clubs coming in 2026-2027.

The addition of unique experiences, and more diversity in activities besides just going to a bar is a good thing! I truly want these memberships to succeed. BUT, I think people over the age of 30 want to be at home or their friend's house. Which is why I'm leaning into hosting house parties for locals to gather and connect.

What do you think? [Watch my video for the full take]

Austin's airport expansion is the biggest infrastructure bet the city has ever made

Every dollar we put into ABIA is a dollar we're choosing to spend making sure a stranger's first ninety minutes in this city feel like Austin instead of feeling like Anywhere, USA. That's the kind of hospitality that makes me proud to be a Texan and Austin resident.

Here’s the number that made me want to write this whole thing. AUS generated $7.6 billion in economic activity in 2017 and supported more than 74,000 jobs. That’s up 212 percent from 2010, when the number was $2.4 billion. Passenger traffic told the same story, from 8.69 million people in 2010 to 13.89 million by 2017. Today it’s over 21 million people, on an airport that was originally designed for 11 million and $13B in economic output in 2026.

Here’s where it’s been, where it is, and where I think it’s going.

WHAT I'M EATING

TruFru

I could cry these are so good. It's everything you could want in a snack or dessert.

WHAT I'M LEARNING

By Kayleigh

I stumbled across Kayleigh's youtube and she made me want to lock myself in my office and just build the damn brand. She breaks down storytelling and world building in a fun, interesting and inspiring way. Her audience is primarily women, but anyone can learn a lot from her videos. Check out The Rhode Blueprint episode.

WHAT I'M OBSESSED WITH

Equipment Room's Vinyl Omakase

This is an incredible experience and everything I hope I can curate in my own events. It's a guided listening series featuring an uninterrupted playback of an album on a hifi sound system, accompanied by curated food, drinks, and discussion. I went for Radiohead's In Rainbow which I had never heard (I don't listen to Radiohead-but I do now!).

Property Spotlight

South Congress Condo - $339,000

2 Beds · 2 Baths · 1,581 Sqft · 35ft long private balcony

4361 South Congress Ave #514, Austin TX 78745

This is the new South Congress. The one before private equity smoothed every edge off of what made this city Austin in the first place. The real South Austinites are already finding their way to St. Elmo, a creative warehouse district built for artists, makers, and the local businesses. Independent restaurants, breweries, live music, galleries, pickleball and padel, all of it walkable, none of downtown's traffic or crowds.

Here's the opportunity: this unit is priced roughly 40 percent below comparable condos in adjacent buildings, because it was tied up in a lawsuit that has recently been settled. That gap is the opportunity. This is upfront equity capture in one of Austin's last authentic, still-becoming neighborhoods, before the rest of the city figures out what's happening here.

Still Austin Whiskey just announced they will expand their current operation to a new 15,000-square-foot cocktail, dining and live music venue in September.
